Based in Glasgow, Scotland, and specializing in producing its own enamel dials in-house, anOrdain is far from another typical microbrand watch company. Following the success of its now sold-out first model comes the simply named anOrdain Model 2. With a new case and dial design, it continues to emphasize the enamel dial, each of which requires 12 hours to produce.
The new anOrdain Model 2 takes a slightly sportier approach with bold numerals and features like crown protectors. Its case, however, is 2mm smaller than the Model 1 at 36mm wide and 11mm thick, and is water-resistant to 50m. Another hint at sportiness is in the addition of a custom-made Super-LumiNova color at the tips of the syringe-like, skeletonized hands.
The dials come in six color options, and the smooth texture of enamel is what makes them feel special — the dials all say “vitreous enamel,” which denotes the technique used, also often referred to as grand feu by high-end brands in the watch industry. A generous treatment of antireflective coating on the sapphire crystal should help in being able to appreciate it. Behind a solid caseback, the watches are powered by a Swiss Sellita SW 210-1 manually wound movement offering a standard 42 hours of power reserve. The anOrdain Model 2 is available directly from the brand for a price of around $1,180.
