Rolex Military Submariners? Good luck finding one of the roughly 1,000-1,200 reference 5513s, 5517s or 5513/5517s issued in the 1970s for less than a small fortune (or at all). Blacked out Submariners? Well, someone can do that for you for a healthy chunk of change — think Bamford Watch Department or MAD Paris. But a blacked out, military-style Submariner? That’s something you truly don’t see every day.
Granted, what we’re talking about here isn’t a true “Mil-Sub,” but many of the design cues are taken from the more iconic Mil-Sub references from the 1970s (think circled “T” on the dial for tritium, sword hands, a fully graduated dive bezel, etc.). But then you get a line of red text on the dial, references vintage red Submariner and double-red Sea Dwellers, and, of course, a fully modern watch: the Submariner Military from Pro Hunter, as this custom Rolex is called, is based on the current Sub reference, the 114060.
The Submariner Military features a 40mm reference 114060 Submariner with a matte carbon coating and a high-tech matte ceramic bezel insert designed in Switzerland. The strap version ($19,435) features fixed spring bars, while a second variant comes on a matching Oyster bracelet ($20,735). Both watches are made in a limited run of 100 pieces and ship with a 5-year warranty. If you like your Rolexes with a side of something a little different, this could be the watch for you.
