The minimalist Italian brand Unimatic’s debut model, the descriptively named Modelo Uno (or U1), continues expanding in options, limited editions, and distribution. For Unimatic’s first official dealer in Japan, the brand has partnered with the retailer Biotop and made a special edition for the occasion. The pared-back and stylish dive watch gets more than a color change for this limited edition and incorporates some new design cues for the brand.
The base Unimatic U1 model uses a 41.5mm-wide steel case, features 300m of water resistance and is powered by the Seiko NH35A automatic movement. For the U1 Biotop edition, a brown bezel and beige elements against a black dial look vintage-inspired (think: Explorer-dial Submariners) but fresh.
Available at Biotop stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, the Unimatic Modello Uno Biotop edition will come in two configurations. On a nylon NATO-style strap, it will be limited to 80 pieces for a price of around $780, and only 20 will be produced with a steel bracelet for a price of $1,010 each.
