The Octo Finissimo has become Bulgari’s flagship watch collection, combining a shockingly thin but complex case with highly distinctive modern looks and excellent movements. For Baselworld 2019, the brand introduced new models in line with industry trends featuring all-black ceramic cases. While some contrast on the dial would benefit legibility, the blacked-out aesthetic and sandblasted ceramic complement the Finissimo personality well.
Bulgari has introduced two versions: an automatic model and a hand-wound model with extensive skeletonization. Both share the same measurements of 40mm wide and 5.5mm thick (water-resistant to 30m), despite clearly using different movements. The Automatic version has a solid dial and runs on the BVL 138, with 60 hours of power reserve and a micro rotor which can be seen through the case back. The skeletonized version, on the other hand, uses the BVL 128SK manually wound movement, which is skeletonized and plated in dark grey. Both movements share the same base, but the hand-wound version also includes a power reserve indicator on the dial at 9 o’clock.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo watches aren’t cheap to begin with, competing with mid-range luxury watches, but ceramic tends to be a more technical material that adds to prices. Ceramic is popular for its interesting texture and lightweight and essentially scratch-proof properties. It’s worth mentioning that both watches come on full ceramic bracelets as well. The Bulgari Octo Finisimo Automatic Ceramic watch has a price of $15,600; and the Skeleton Ceramic version is $24,700.
