This seems to be a good week for Kickstarter watches. While we’re generally hesitant when these come across our desks, crowdfunding can and does lead to some killer designs at affordable price (think Baltic watches, for one). If a brand knows how to take advantage of its initial round of funding to build a successful product and improve its cachet in the (watch) world, a second crowdfunded timepiece obviously has a much better chance of realization.
Such is the case with Collins Watch Company, which began on Kickstarter in 2016 with the launch of the Bronson and is now raising funds for the production of its second watch, called the Hyperion. The Hyperion is a military/aviator-style timepiece with a 40mm case, 100m of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, Super LumiNova lume and the Swiss-made Sellita SW200 movement (38 hours of power reserve). It’s assembled and tested in the USA, backed by a 1-year warranty and features a 30-day return policy.
Three models are being produced, including Black for $425 (brushed black PVD steel case with matte black dial and date); Silver for $435 (brushed steel case with matte black dial and date); and Carbon for $455 (brushed gunmetal PVD steel case with carbon fiber dial and no date). Extra straps are also available for an additional cost, and delivery is scheduled for June, should the campaign be fully funded (as of this writing, it’s halfway funded with over a month to go).
