Today, Mido announced a new line of handsome, classically-styled dress watches within its Multifort collection. Retro cues are aplenty if you care to notice them, but the Patrimony isn’t excessively in-your-face about being “vintage-inspired,” nor is it a direct reissue of any specific historical model. However, the fonts, the domed dial with sun-brushed finish, the multi-faceted lugs and especially the pulsometer scale around the dial’s edge all hint at the charm that drives the popularity of watches from yesteryear.
For the Mido Multifort Patrimony, this pulsometer scale mostly adds visual interest to the dial — though one can, theoretically, use it to actually take someone’s pulse. This is done by counting 30 beats beginning the moment the seconds hand passes 12 o’clock and reading the number it has reached on the pulsometer — which is admittedly more convenient when you have a chronograph to readily start, stop, and reset. Modestly sized at 40mm wide with a raised sapphire crystal and featuring 50m of water-resistance, the Patrimony is powered by the Swatch Group’s ETA-based, 80-hour power reserve movement, which is finding its way into more and more watches around this price point.
Three available options comprise the current collection, with two in steel and one with a gold PVD case, each with a gray or blue dial. A simple, attractive watch, reminiscent of, say, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control or even Montblanc’s recent Heritage collection, the Mido Patrimony has a price of $890 for steel models and $1,000 for the PVD gold case.
