In 1992, COMEX diver Theo Mavrostomos completed a daring 701 meter saturation dive, which might explain the odd-numbered depth rating of the first watch released from new brand, Ægir. In fact, this depth rating is no coincidence, but rather an intentional homage from company founder and professional commercial diver, Todd Caldwell, to Mavrostomos’ herculean achievement, which remains a record to this day. Ægir, which is the Norse word for the god of the sea, was born from Caldwell’s desire to develop a “one watch” for his fellow commercial divers that could survive the rigors of their job, yet not look out of place on shore in more civilized surroundings. Other features of the CD-2 include all-German construction and assembly, a top-grade Soprod A10 automatic Swiss movement, 60-click unidirectional timing bezel, domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, automatic helium escape valve (a must for saturation diving), applied indexes and the knowledge that the watch on your wrist was designed by a man who knows the value of a tough, reliable timepiece.
A word of warning: If you plan on attempting to break Mavrostomos’ record, you’d better hurry up and order your CD-2 now, since they are almost all spoken for.
