Baltic is one of our favorite boutique watch brands, and not without good reason: its HMS 001 three-hander and Bicompax 001 chronograph are two of the best vintage-inspired designs on the market. Now, finally available for pre-order is the Aquascaphe, the brand’s tribute to the dive watch of the 1960s.
The Aquascaphe is a 39mm stainless steel diver with a unidirectional bezel, double-domed, AR-coated sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and case back and three different dial color options, including blue, black with white lumed indices and hands, and black with “vintage-style” lumed indices and hands. I’ve tried all three variants myself and can safely say that these are some of my favorite divers developed this year.
You get 200m of water resistance, the Miyota 9039 non-date automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve (and no ghost date wheel, thank God), but the best part (besides the aesthetics and case dimensions) is the bracelet: Baltic has developed a brand-new beads-of-rice bracelet in stainless steel that looks and feels incredible. It’s got solid end pieces and links, has a vintage-style clasp that still includes seven micro-adjustment positions, tapers from 20mm to 18mm, features a quick-release system and best of all: it fits all Baltic products. Oh, and if you pre-order now, you get a free Baltic Tropic-style rubber dive strap.
Pre-order pricing begins at ~$554 on rubber and ~$628 for steel and rubber (VAT-excluded prices for orders outside of the EU), after which the prices will increase to ~$661 and ~$753, respectively. The pre-order will last for 30 days beginning 11/21/18, and delivery will begin in June, 2019.
