This past August, Danny Thompson donned a fire suit, strapped on his helmet, and lowered himself into what could easily be mistaken for a ballistic missile. By the end of the day, the 69-year-old had piloted the dual-engine, four-wheeled speed demon to 448.8 mph across the Bonneville Salt Flats — breaking the previous record held by a piston engine-powered vehicle by more than 40 mph. To celebrate this achievement of both man and machine, Ball watches has announced a limited pre-sale on three new COSC-certified watches they’re calling the Roadmaster Challenger.
These watches offer an incredible amount of value for the price. Each of the trio sports the same handsome design with gas tube insets on the bezel, dial, and hands, but vary when it comes to movement. The Roadmaster M Challenger features a manufacture caliber movement with an 80-hour power reserve, while the Roadmaster Challenger 18 TMT boasts a thermometer module that measures temperature in Celsius. The final watch of the trio, the Roadmaster Challenger 18, features a day-date window and the Ball RR1102 movement. Only 1,000 of each of these models have been made, and until November 28th of 2018, they’ll be available for between $500 to $800 off the retail price.
