Timex made quite a splash last year when they introduced the reissue of the Marlin, the company’s first mechanical watch in over 30 years. The Marlin, featuring a 34mm polished case, drilled 18mm lugs, domed acrylic crystal, hand-wound movement, black “lizard-pattern” leather strap and beautiful silver-tone dial, was an instant hit, quickly selling out its initial supply run. That Timex decided to recreate a vintage model without altering even the original case proportions seemed to really resonate with consumers, and it’s not hard to see why: this is a watch that looks just as at home on a wrist in 2018 as it did in mid-1960s…oh, and it costs only $200.
When the brand then introduced an all-black version of the watch in collaboration with Todd Snyder (the Marlin Blackout), that too, was a huge hit — having a dressier version of the watch with a black dial was obviously appealing.
Now, Timex and Todd Snyder are launching another version of the timepiece, the Marlin Mesh, featuring — you guessed it — a mesh bracelet! You’re gonna have to shell out an extra $9 for this one (MSRP is $209), but it seems like the extra Hamilton will be worth it.
If you happened to love the original Marlin but the leather strap wasn’t so much your thing, then the Mesh is poised to be an excellent alternative. It’s easily adjustable, looks great, and wears comfortably — what more could you ask for at $209?
