Ball Watches is one of those deeply-underrated watch brands with an interesting history (specifically, building durable watches for rail workers), offering compelling watches, stuffed with features at appealing prices. As of late, the brand has taken to a strategy of regularly offering new watches at pre-order prices. The upshot? You get a lot of watch for your money. Naturally, the brand’s latest timepiece follows suit.
The Fireman Night Train III is a simple three-hander watch with a magnified date at three o’clock, but there’s more to it under the hood. Inside ticks the workhorse ETA 2824-2 automatic, which is protected by an anti-magnetic ring and Ball’s shock-absorbing “Amortiser” system. Further, the watch is outfitted with tritium gas tubes, something of a signature on Ball timepieces. Tritium gas doesn’t require “charging” from a light source like more common photoluminescent materials (like SuperLuminova) and doesn’t fade, so you always have a lit-up watch when you need it. Ball also uses a whopping 61 tubes around the dial.
The watch is available in three sizes: 31mm, 40mm and 43mm, and buyers can specify their dial color, strap option and even lume color, making it an incredibly customizable watch, to boot. The watch is available for pre-order now with a starting price of $990, $550 off its full retail price, until September 19th.
