Worn & Wound is a website whose modus operandi is to shed light on the watch industry’s many value-driven pieces, often from smaller, lesser-known brands. It makes sense, then, that it’d work on a collaborative piece with a brand like AVI-8. The small, British brand has been around for a few years, making accessibly-priced mechanical and quartz watches that draw inspiration from aviation and the military. That inspiration forms the basis for this new timepiece.
The watch is the duo’s second collaboration and draws on the same vintage military watch inspiration as the first, but seeks to modernize it. This is primarily seen in the dial, a decidedly pared-down affair with the watch’s branding and cross design a faint black pop against a slate gray background color. Conversely, the watch’s hour markers are all coated in creamy white lume that provides plenty of contrast and legibility.
Powering the watch is Miyota’s workhorse 8245 automatic movement, which is housed in a 42mm case, rated water-resistant to 50 meters. The case is made from stainless steel, though the inner barrel has a black PVD coating, which gives it a unique two-tone effect that can only be seen from the side. Worn & Wound and AVI-8 will only make 300 watches, and they’re available right now from Worn & Wound’s online shop.
