Chances are that if you’re deep down the mechanical watch rabbit hole, you’re at least glancingly familiar with the Bamford Watch Department, a London-based company begun by George Bamford that specializes in customizing steel sports watches, often by giving them a blacked-out coating or changing the dial and hands. Their work is striking, and very cool-looking.
Bamford has now collaborated with Tag Heuer on a blacked-out version of the Monaco (released at Basel in 2018), limited to 500 pieces and finally available for pre-order in the US via the Tag Heuer website with a price of $8,100. The Bamford Monaco features a lightweight carbon case, black dial with blue luminescent accents on the chronograph counters and hands, PVD-coated steel crown, sapphire crystal and case back, and Tag Heuer Calibre 11 automatic chronograph movement.
Evidently only a small fraction of the 500 pieces being made will be available to the US market, so if you dig this Monaco and want to nab one, you better act quickly and pre-order (delivery is expected in early September).
