This Is One of the Most Affordable Mechanical Chronographs You Can Buy

But if you want one you’ll have to hurry.

Baltic is a French indie brand with a focus on making simple, vintage-inspired watch designs at reasonably attainable prices, and their latest release is clearly a testament to this commitment toward affordability. The new Bicompax Reverse Panda Limited Edition comes packing a lot of features that’ll appeal to enthusiasts: A mechanical chronograph. Hand-winding. A reserved, 38mm case. A handsome, vintage-inspired color scheme. Oh, and it costs $665.

This is quite a deal given that most mechanical chronographs today cost well over $1,000. The key to this price is the movement inside: the Sea-Gull ST1901, a movement many enthusiasts might now as the ticking heart within the Seagull 1963 chronograph. The caliber is made in China – however, the basic design is based on the Venus 175, a decades-old hand-winder initially designed in France in the 1940s. Clearly, it’s a very fitting engine for the brand.

Here’s the catch: Baltic is only making 100 pieces available in a panda dial scheme and 100 more in the pictured reverse-panda scheme. The former has already sold out so the latter probably won’t be around much longer.
