A 52.4mm steel case and hard-wearing Cordura strap make this one tough timepiece.

G-Shock has unveiled a new collection — dubbed “Street Utility” — within its G-Steel lineup, itself a collection of metal-cased G-Shocks with a bent towards style. The new watches take on the same basic build as the rest of the G-Steel lineup, with a couple of notable additions. For one, G-Shock added a super-durable Cordura strap with leather lining that will wear more comfortably against the wrist. Meanwhile, on the case, the urethane bezel has been given a knurled texture. The overall aim is to make a watch that toes the line between street style and field-ready ruggedness.

The movement inside bolsters that ethos. It’s a solar-charged module with an analog-digital display, packing a litany of functions: a world timer, an alarm, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, and an LED light to name a few. At 52.4mm in diameter it’s a bit of a bruiser, but will no doubt find a home on the wrist of someone just waiting to bang it up without a fuss.
