Unbeknownst to many, jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co. has a fairly long history of making and selling some excellent watches. For example, the company imported the first stopwatch to America in 1869 and held the first patent for using luminous paint on watch dials in 1903. Tiffany sold watches to a number of high-profile clientele throughout the 20th century, including a calendar watch to Franklin Delano Roosevelt. That watch was the basis for the brand’s new(ish) CT60 collection — hence its very clear mid-century leanings — but now Tiffany & Co. has given the CT60 range a modernized makeover in black.
The new collection is comprised of the three-hand and chronograph versions of the CT60. Both get cases with a black diamond-like coating (DLC) and black dials with numerals in silver. The watches also come affixed to black-and-gray striped NATO straps which have become an exceedingly popular strap choice for watch enthusiasts as of late. Both are powered by Sellita-based automatic movements (the chronograph has a Dubois-Depraz module as well) and are water resistant to 100 meters. Both are available now, with the three-hander selling for $5,450 and the chronograph going for $7,450.
