G-Shock’s New Collaboration Is Inspired by One of the World’s Greatest Cities

All-black, all-steel, all-awesome.

Though G-Shocks were originally conceived as super-tough, super-utilitarian, and super-affordable timepieces, they have, perhaps ironically, long had appeal as a luxury style staple. As such, G-Shock has churned out countless collaborations with menswear designers, and the brand’s latest — the GST200RBG-1 — is this all-black, all-steel tough watch designed by menswear designer Robert Geller.

According to Geller, the inspiration for the watch came from walking around Tokyo at night, unable to sleep due to jetlag. That’s embodied by the black, ion-plated case and black dial with its gold accents. What’s especially notable about the watch is its steel construction; most G-Shocks feature resin cases, but the GST200RBG-1 is part of G-Shock’s G-Steel line, giving it a bit more of a refined edge.
