4 Awesome New Releases from the King of German Tool Watches

German watchmaker Sinn embodies an image of Teutonic toughness, build quality and no-nonsense, function-first watches made for use and abuse. Their new models for 2020 — which range from chronographs to dive watches to GMT watches (all unceremoniously named only by numbers and abbreviations) — might just be some of the most rugged and compelling timepieces we’ve seen all year.

R500

Unlike many of the brand’s minimalist modern designs, the R500 revives a funky chronograph it produced in the 1960s. Chronographs oriented with the crown and pushers on the top of the case like this are referred to as bullhead chronographs, and they’ve got a generally funky look that’s further emphasized here by some pops of color and other vintage cues. Though chunky in dimensions, titanium construction should keep it lightweight. It’s limited to 300 examples.

105 St Sa

The 105 St Sa has the look of a classic Sinn dive watch, here offered in black or white (105 St Sa W) versions in stainless steel. Its rotating bezel featuring a 12-hour scale as well as a 60-count scale for tracking minutes or seconds indicates that this watch has more versatile intentions than those of a pure dive watch. A vertical day-date display at 6 o’clock maintains a pleasing symmetry.

As the name indicates, this is an iteration of the 105 St Sa above. Sinn’s classic pilot’s chronograph watch has previously come in other hues, but here it’s offered with dial and bezel all in green — shimmering metallic green, to be specific, matched to a polished case. In addition to the chronograph and day-date displays, a rotating bezel adds further functionality. This one’s limited to 500 examples.
