This Is One of the Best Value-Buy Watches of 2017

Watch nerds have a lot to be excited about.

Frederique Constant continues its push to develop more and more complications, in-house, at reasonable price points. Their latest is a flyback chronograph — in which the seconds hand returns to zero, then proceeds to run without having to stop and start the chronograph function. Because the rapid return to zero often causes stress on the movement, they’re trickier to develop than a standard chronograph — and rarer and more expensive.

But in stainless steel, the Frederique Constant Flyback costs $3,995, a solid price for a mechanical chronograph, let alone one with an in-house, automatic flyback movement. That’s housed in a 42mm case (which you can also get in plated rose gold) and has a set of square-shaped pushers (which kind of make it look like a Patek). A variety of dial designs are available, including silver and slate gray colorways and smooth or hobnail texturing.
