Hot on the heels of the new Sinn U50, a more compact version of the German brand’s beloved 44mm U1, Sinn has released a special version of the U1 itself. Dubbed the U1 DE, it’s a limited edition celebrating 30 years since the reunification of Germany in June, 1990, done up the colors of the German flag (red, black, gold).
The new watch retains the original’s defining features (German submarine steel case with Tegiment technology; 1,000m of water resistance; ratcheting dive bezel; four o’clock crown; sapphire crystal) while upgrading its looks: the distinctive dial remains, but the red seconds hand has been replaced with gold, while the previously red portions of the hour and minute hands is now black. The case has been giving a distinctive all-black coating that matches the bezel and dial.

SinnPowering the new U1 DE is the automatic workhorse Sellita SW200 with 26 jewels and hacking function — nothing less or more than is needed to run such a utilitarian timepiece. Buyers have the choice of various rubber, leather or steel straps and bracelets, making for a package that should run somewhere between $2,791 and $3,266 depending on the package (pricing has been converted here from Euros).
44mm in diameter and 14.7mm thick, the U1 isn’t for everyone, but if you’re after a serious tool watch with badass looks and tough-as-nails specs, Sinn’s flagship model can’t be beat, especially in this cool new colorway.
