The newest iteration of Omega’s flagship Seamaster dive watch aims to aid in ocean conservancy efforts in partnership with Nekton, a non-profit research foundation based in the UK. The foundation’s “First Descent” project — a mission to explore and conserve the Indian Ocean that began in 2019 — sees the Swiss watchmaker participating in a supporting role. Interrupted by the onset of COVID-19, the project is set to be restarted next year, but the new watch will be available shortly.
Said watch is the new Seamaster Diver 300M Nekton Edition, a 42mm stainless steel diver available on either a matching bracelet ($6,150) or a rubber dive strap ($5,850). Featuring a combination polished and brushed case with unidirectional titanium dive bezel and 300m of water resistance, the 300M sports a laser-ablated, matte-finished black ceramic dial with polished waves that appear in relief. A combination of sword hands and oversized dot and rectangular indices keep the watch highly legible underwater.
OmegaPowering the watch is the Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, an anti-magnetic, automatic movement with 55 hours of power reserve. Other features include a helium-escape valve, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a special case back embossed with the Nekton submarine medallion.
