Independent Swiss brand H. Moser & Cie. broke its own mold this year by introducing an uncharacteristically sporty flyback chronograph watch in steel. It was esoteric in several ways despite its practical features, but the new Streamliner Centre Seconds presents a more familiar sport watch experience. With simple three-hand time telling and an automatic movement, this is possibly Moser’s most versatile watch yet.
The Streamliner ($21,900) fits within the category — typified by the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak — that one might call “luxury lifestyle sport watches.” There are some inevitable commonalities in such watches, sure, but Moser’s new timepiece doesn’t seem at all derivative. Like other high-end modern watch companies, the brand wanted to offer its take on horology in a package more suited to contemporary life and casual wear, which it’s done to a high degree in the form of the Streamliner.
H. Moser & Co.A 40mm case means it can be dressed up and slip under a cuff, while 120m of water resistance means you can take it swimming. Further, a steel case and bracelet means you don’t have to worry scratching the watch or damaging a leather strap. Finally, a time-only, automatic movement further makes the watch’s case as a daily wearer, but exhibits the brand’s high-level, in-house craftsmanship through a display case back.
All that noted, however, the fumé (“smoked” gradient) dial Moser is known for — presented here in a green hue — is a striking, highly visible feature that separates the Streamliner Centre Seconds from the rest of the pack.
