Cars, planes and diving are the more familiar horological tropes, but watch designs can take inspiration from almost anything — even gummy worms. The new Detrola watch from Detroit-based Shinola uses translucent colored plastic to mimic the look of the famed sweet and chewy candy in an appropriately fun and affordable package that’s just right for summer.

In addition to its bold 43mm resin case in yellow, the “gummy” look continues onto the green dial. This concept is sometimes called “jelly” when applied to G-Shocks, but even high-end brands have achieved a similar effect using sapphire crystal cases. Shinola applies this look well, allowing you to see the quartz movement through the case back as well as through the gummy dial.

For an appropriately playful primary-color look, the yellow and green of the watch are the accompanied by a red silicone strap. It’s available from Shinola now for a price of $395.
