5 Oris Watches to Consider for Your Collection

An independent Swiss brand known for its down-to earth, value-forward tool watches, Oris has a plenty of great models to check out.

Consistently churning out winning models in a wide range of collections, Oris is a favorite of both beginning and more experienced watch collectors alike. The independent Swiss brand has a focus on value and a down-to-earth attitude that’s a bit different from the big companies owned by large conglomerates. Oris is no upstart, however, tracing its founding to 1904 in the Swiss town of Hölstein.

Considering its back catalog that spans over a hundred years, you can expect vintage re-releases from Oris — and you won’t be disappointed — but the brand also has thoroughly modern collections. Between diving, aviation, motorsport and “culture” ranges, Oris consistently offers solid build and strong personality in watches ideal for filling out a collection or to serve as your daily wear. Here are some examples we particularly love.

Oris Aquis GMT Carysfort Reef

Part of Oris’s ongoing series of dive watches produced in partnership with environmental conservation organizations, the limited edition Carysfort Reef is dedicated to the restoration a coral reef in the Florida Keys. More than a serious and robust dive watch, it also offers GMT functionality and sporty, colorful highlights — especially so on an optional orange rubber strap.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five

The Divers Sixty-Five is based on, of course, dive watches the brand produced in the 1960s, but it’s grown into a wider collection with different sizes, materials, functions and designs. This particular example has a blue dial and steel case on a Tropic-style strap, and it’s nicely sized at 40mm. Its water resistance of 100m is less than that of many serious modern divers, but sufficient for most water-related activities and in line with dive watches of past decades.

Oris Chronoris Date

A killer ’70s style characterizes this vintage reissue of a sporty chronograph from the brand’s archives. While this version doesn’t feature a chronograph, it maintains the original’s motorsport-themed look. Housed in a 39mm case, it’s also got an inner rotating bezel that can be used to time events (in place of a chronograph) via the crown at 4 o’clock.

Oris Big Crown Pointer Date

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date has an unusual yet classical appeal that makes it surprisingly versatile. While appropriate today for slightly more formal wear, it’s based on a vintage pilot’s watch, and the result is a timepiece you can dress up or down and that’s never boring. The brand has done interesting things with dial colors, and this maroon execution makes for a unique look.

Oris Aquis Date

One of the brand’s most popular collections, the Oris Aquis achieves a balance uncommon in modern dive watches with a combination of everyday wearability and distinctive looks. It’s even more interesting in this variation, with a minty green dial matched to a gray bezel in a 39.5mm package — all while boasting a robust build, 300m of water resistance and even a case back window displaying the automatic movement inside.
