Swatch got mechanical watch enthusiasts’ attention when it introduced a totally machine-assembled automatic movement using only 51 components made mostly of plastic. Called Sistem51, it makes for a budget-friendly introduction to mechanical watches and an ultra- casual, unpretentious option. Swatch has now partnered with watch enthusiast website HODINKEE to produce a special Summer Edition watch in bright white.
Accompanying the 42mm-wide HODINKEE Sistem51 is a quartz watch for kids measuring around 32mm wide from Swatch’s subsidiary Flik Flak. It’s a fun idea to have a pair of cheerful summer watches for parents and children to wear together — though both are water-resistant to only 30m, so these are more for land-based summer fashion than sporty or water-related activities.
The HODINKEE Summer Edition watches are available from the online HODINKEE Shop with a price of $170 for the Sistem51 and just $40 for the kids’ Flik Flak.
