As of 2017, it’s been 40 years since King Midas first fondled an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak — and because Swiss watchmakers aren’t so keen to forget an anniversary, Audemars Piguet is launching the Royal Oak Ultra-Thin “Jumbo” in solid yellow gold to celebrate. Coming in at a modest 39mm in diameter and around 8mm thin and is paired with either a royal blue or gold-colored dial. The blingy case houses AP’s caliber 2121: an automatic two-hander with a 40-hour power reserve coming in at a super slim 3.05mm thick — the same exact movement, in fact, that was first used in the original Royal Oak from 1972. Since both the case and the entire bracelet are done in solid gold, this piece won’t come cheap: a whopping $55,400.
