The watch industry is awash with too much news to cover. Each week, we’ll break down everything worth knowing. This week: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new worldtimer is a world-first, a million fake watches are confiscated, Zenith gets a new CEO and more.
A World First in Worldtimers

Ahead of SIHH, Jaeger-LeCoultre has taken the wraps off one of its newest creations: the Geophysic Worldtimer Tourbillon. The watch is based on the Geophysic Worldtime JLC first released in 2015, but for the first time the watchmaker has put a flying tourbillon inside it and cased it up in platinum. Not only is this a first for Jaeger-LeCoultre, it marks the first time ever a tourbillon and world time complication have been combined in one watch.
Fake It ‘Till They Confiscate It

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) says approximately one million fake watches were confiscated in 2016. The majority were seized in China, though thousands of others were reportedly found in Russia, Dubai and Turkey. FH says it has increased monitoring on the internet and social media networks to spot ads for counterfeit timepieces. We happen to know a guy who’s pretty good at just that.
