Seiko has taken the wraps of a new limited edition in its Presage line, a celebration of the company’s (and Japan’s) first self-winding mechanical watch, launched in 1956, the Seiko Automatic. For those unfamiliar with the Presage line, it’s a sort of middle ground between Seiko’s more affordable watches and its high-end Grand Seiko Line. In fact, this particular watch is put together in the same workshop where Grand Seikos are made.
The new Presage SARW027 takes visual cues from the original Seiko Automatic — most notably the gold hands, gold hour indices and a power reserve indicator, and places them in a 40.5mm case. The watch is driven by Seiko’s 6R27 automatic movement, which features additional hand-winding, 45 hours of power reserve and hacking seconds. Seiko plans to make 1,956 examples, with a price around $1,050.
