Tudor recently unveiled its latest watch — a left-handed variant of its titanium Pelagos dive watch with a 500-meter depth rating. For the most part, it’s similar to the standard Pelagos, save for some vintage-inspired off-white lume and a red font on the date complication and at the bottom of the dial. The big departure here, of course, is the crown, flipped 180 degrees to the left side of the watch, which will make it easier for left-handed wearers (and folks who just prefer the watch on their right wrist) to set the time and wind the watch. While it may seem like a gimmick, there’s historical precedent for Tudor to make a left-handed Pelagos — in the 1970s, Tudor created a few bespoke dive watches for members of the French Navy.
Lefties are rare — about 10 percent of the population — but left-handed watches are even rarer. While some watchmakers, like Sinn, have a few left-handed watches in their lineup, other watchmakers that do offer left-handed watches only offer one model (like Tudor), and most others don’t give it as an option at all.
