Indie watch brand Autodromo is celebrating its fifth anniversary, which can only mean one thing: it’s time for a special edition. But Autodromo is pulling out all the stops for its new timepiece. Their new commemorative watch is a reissue of the Monoposto, a limited-edition watch launched in 2012 that sold out in months and gained cult status among Autodromo’s fans. But whereas the original Monoposto was a simple three-hander, this new edition features an automatic chronograph movement — a first for Autodromo.
Inside the Monoposto ticks a Seiko NE88 column wheel chronograph movement. It rests inside a 43mm stainless steel case and comes with an option of three dials inspired by dashboard gauges from vintage race cars — black, silver and “Azzurro.” The most visually striking thing about the watch, though, is the red (or yellow, in the case of the Azzurro dial watch) marker between ten and eleven o’clock, which is printed on the sapphire crystal instead of the dial; it’s a nod to the strip of red tape racers used to use to indicate the rev limit of their cars before the introduction of electronic rev limiters. Only 500 examples of the Monoposto Chronograph will be made: 200 in black, 200 in silver and 100 in Azzurro.
