The watch industry has a tendency to take itself very seriously. Long histories of old-world watchmaking methods are to be celebrated, grand complications lead to bragging rights and even we as writers and reviewers tend to have a preference for iconic looks, high-quality finishing and beautifully executed minutiae. But there’s something to be said about a watch that makes you think, “what the fuck?” A watch that doesn’t quite fit into our expected mold of what makes an excellent timepiece, a designer who went out on a limb to challenge industry norms or an interesting-looking watch with an interesting back story.
