Good news and bad news, watch fans. Good news: Not long after unveiling its limited run of vintage-inspired Zenith El Primeros, watch blog Hodinkee is back with a new watch collaboration with German watchmaker NOMOS Glashütte. The new watch is an altered version of one of our favorites, the Metro, which has been given extensive revisions inside and out.
For starters, the movement inside the new Metro is an updated version of the watchmaker’s first in-house movement, the hand-wound Alpha. Better still, the watch and movement have been officially certified as chronometers by the Glashüztee Observatory, meaning the entire watch (COSC in Switzerland only tests the movement) has been put through 15 days of testing while being accurate to within +6/-4 seconds per day. Hodinkee and NOMOS also strived for even more simplicity than the standard Metro: there’s no date complication, and the crystal case back has been replaced with a full-metal one. Meanwhile, the dial gets grayish-blue accents, a brick-red seconds hand and a “Chronometer” designation in light gray. Only 100 examples are available.
The bad news? About an hour after being announced, all 100 have been sold.
