Raymond Weil Introduces First Pilot’s Watch, The Freelancer Piper

Raymond Weil introduced a limited-edition pilot’s watch made in collaboration with aircraft manufacturer Piper. The watch features a 45mm case constructed entirely out of titanium. The hands are meant to recall the shape of airplane rotors, while the running seconds hand sits within a mock-altimeter gauge. Complications include a chronograph timer and a 24-hour GMT hand with red tip.

Girard-Perregaux Introduces First 1966 In Steel

For the first time in its history, Girard-Perregaux’s 1966 collection is getting a steel watch. The new GP 1966 in steel is sized at 40mm and features a clean dial design with three hands, hour batons with minute pips and a date aperture at 3 o’clock. Inside the watch beats a Girard-Perregaux-built automatic movement with a 46-hour reserve.

Wind Up: New York City Watch Showcase for Independents

Our friends at Worn & Wound are inviting the public to their Wind Up New York event later this month, where visitors can get a firsthand look at some smaller independent watch brands with offerings that will appeal to the budget-conscious buyer. Among the featured brands will be Autodromo, Benarus, Brew Watches, Martenero, as well as more established brands like Oris and Stowa. The event kicks off Friday, October 23.

Baume & Mercier Builds One-Off Capeland for Auction

In partnership with Carroll Shelby International, Baume & Mercier has built a one-off Capeland Shelby Cobra watch, which is to be auctioned at Antiquorum in New York on December 15th. Built to recall details of Shelby’s iconic Cobra, the Capeland Shelby features a white dial with a pair of baby blue racing stripes right down the center. The 44mm case is 18k red gold and contains an automatic chronograph movement. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Carroll Shelby Foundation, which helps kids battle life-threatening illnesses and supports automotive education programs.
