Designing a new watch is very difficult, and Christopher Ward made a documentary to prove it.
The video is only a minute long, but you can catch some intriguing lines.
“The story starts five years ago,” opens Christopher Ward’s Co-Founder and CEO, Mike France.
“Designing a new watch after Bel Canto is really hard,” a Christopher Ward engineer states. “That sets a high bar.”

“It looks like we have to throw away the balance wheels,” declares another.
“It’s definitely difficult at the moment in Biel,” confesses a third. “The watch isn’t working as we need it to.”
We can piece together some clues from this teaser for a full-length documentary, which, in turn, promises to reveal the making of Christopher Ward’s next watch.

The British indie watchmaker is working on the hotly anticipated follow-up to the Bel Canto, a surprise success that changed the brand’s fortunes overnight. Unfortunately, the clip offers no evidence of what the watch looks like, only that it is unconventional enough to challenge Christopher Ward’s talented design team to the point of frustration.
It is revealed that the coming documentary, Freewheelin’, will cover “139 People,” presumably Christopher Ward’s entire staff, and “3 countries.”
England is represented by the brand’s new headquarters in Maidenhead, located halfway between London and Reading. The teaser mentions Biel, Switzerland, one of the great horological capitals of the world. And a quick snippet of a New York City street suggests that America is the third.

We’re immediately treated to a glimpse of the “2 Dogs” in question, but as for “Oh… and a watch,” you can get a first look by registering to watch the Freewheelin‘ premier live on YouTube on April 23.
The mysterious watch in question will be revealed in full the following day, on April 24.
