Without a doubt, one of the standout gadgets unveiled at CES 2025 was Swippitt. It’s a smartphone charger that looks like an oversized toaster but, uniquely, promises to fully recharge your iPhone or Android smartphone in a matter of seconds. No need to plug it in or wait for it to charge. It’s almost instantaneous.

So, is it a gimmick? No … but there are a few big catches. Let’s go ahead and explain.

Meet Swippitt

No, that’s not a toaster. It’s Swippitt.

A case-and-hub charging system

Swippitt isn’t exactly a smartphone charger, but a smartphone charging solution. It’s a modular system comprised of the Swippitt Hub (the oversized toaster-looking thing) and Swippitt’s own Link cases — you need to have one of these cases on your smartphone for the system to work.

Each Swippitt Link case functions as a battery pack case for your iPhone, adding an additional 3,500mAh of juice to your smartphone. But the battery in each case in swappable, which is where the hub comes in.

A two-second recharge

Here’s how it works.

When the smartphone case’s battery gets low, you stick the entire smartphone in the Hub (via the top). It then mechanically removes the old battery and inserts a new fully-charged one. The process takes roughly two seconds.

The Swippitt Hub can house up to five batteries — making it a potential charging solution for the whole family (so long as everybody has a Swippitt Link case on their smartphone).

The Swippitt charging system works with a free companion app, where you can check the charge percentage of the batteries inside the Hub. You can also use the app to reserve a specific battery, ensuring you can get the highest-percentage battery instead of a family member.

Price and availability

There are a few caveats with the Swippitt charging system. As mentioned, you need to have a Swippitt-specific case, which is definitely bulkier than your average smartphone case. But the biggest setback is undoubtedly its price — the system isn’t exactly cheap.

The Swippitt Hub costs $450 on its own, while each necessary case costs $120. That means you’re dropping $570 just to get you started — however, Swippitt is running a pretty big CES promo right now, dropping $100 off the hub.

You can order the Hub and Link cases in six finishes, although they’re different for each. The Link cases come in more vibrant colors (including blue, green and maroon), while the Hub comes in more bespoke/neutral finishes (such as black, beige and walnut).

As for the cases, they’re available to fit both iPhones and Android smartphones (from Samsung and Google), although cases for the latter don’t yet appear to be available for preorder yet.

The Swippitt charging system is available for preorder now, with an expected ship date of June 2025.
