In the last few weeks, Spotify has treated its Premium subscribers with quite the rollout of new features. This includes an overhaul of its Podcasts section, a new snooze option (for songs you’re tired of hearing) and an easier way to purchase audiobooks, which now can be done directly in the app.

And now, just this week, Spotify has revealed that it’ll be rolling out updates that make downloading playlists to your various devices — including your Apple Watch — a little easier.

Any Spotify subscriber knows that managing your downloads — be it a playlist or podcast — is key.

This is especially true on your iPhone when traveling, as you don’t want to get caught in a situation without cellular or Wi-Fi and with nothing to listen to. For those who exercise with an Apple Watch (and don’t have a cellular model) and leave their iPhone at home, managing your Spotify downloads is equally essential.

And now, as first reported by Engadget, Spotify is making the entire process easier. Specifically, you’ll be able to remotely download Spotify playlists from one device to another. If you’re not in Apple’s ecosystem, this will work on Android and Wear OS devices, too.

When the update rolls out, from your iPhone, you’ll be able to queue up a playlist to download on your Apple Watch (or even your iPad). This way, you won’t have to wait as long for your playlists to download on your various devices.

As noted in Engadget‘s article, a version of this tool had previously been available for Apple Watch users. But moving forward, the process should be more streamlined thanks to a new “Manage Downloads” button and tab.

Here’s how it works. On your iPhone and in the Spotify app > tap the three dots next to the playlist you want to download > select Manage Downloads > and select the device you want that playlist downloaded to. Including your Apple Watch.

From this Manage Downloads, you should be able to see which devices the playlist and podcast are downloaded to. This should help you better manage Spotify’s guardrail, which limits downloads to five devices.

For those wondering, you’ll still be able to download Spotify playlists and podcasts directly on your Apple Watch. Just click the green download arrow next to either.

When’s it coming?

According to Engadget‘s article, Spotify is rolling out the updates as we speak.

However, if you don’t see the updates on your Spotify just yet … don’t worry. The rollout could take a couple of weeks to complete.
