Nomad is no stranger to leather iPhone cases — it’s been making them for years. And now that Apple has stopped making its own leather iPhones cases (in favor of its more eco-friendly yet less premium FineWoven material), third-party leather cases like Nomad’s are more in demand than ever before.
To date, Nomad has offered two different leather iPhone cases. There’s its Modern Leather Case ($50+) and its Modern Leather Folio ($60+), both of which are basically identical, available in either full grain leather or Horween leather options and in either brown or black finishes. The difference, obviously, is that the Folio offers screen protection and slots to hold a few cards and cash.
Now, it’s offering a third option: the Magnetic Leather Back ($40). And as its name gives away, it isn’t an iPhone “case” at all.
The Nomad Magnetic Leather Back is similar to the company’s other leather cases, but instead of wrapping around the frame (the sides) of your iPhone, it simply magnetically clips to the back. This means it adds protection to the back of the iPhone but not the sides. The advantage here is your iPhone has a premium leather finish yet is still slim — it adds just 2.05mm (0.081 inches) of thickness — so that it feels more like it’s not wearing a case at all.

The Nomad Magnetic Leather Back’s slim design means that, when attached to your iPhone, it’ll still be fully compatible with MagSafe chargers, stands and mounts. However, because there’s not built-in MagSafe in the Magnetic Leather Back, the strength of the connection might not be as strong.
There’s an additional catch, however. Nomad’s Magnetic Leather Back is only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max — there’s no option for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The logic here is that it’s meant to show of the titanium frame of Apple’s more premium iPhones. (The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus still are mode of aluminum.)
The Nomad Magnetic Leather Back is available now.
