I’ve Never Seen an Apple Accessory Quite Like This (And I Kinda Love It)

It’s weird in the coolest possible way. Plus, it’s more affordable than similar accessories sold by Apple.

Moft is one of the most popular third-party Apple accessory makers running, but it has definitely carved out a niche in terms of design — many of its cases, stands, wallets and tripods are inspired by origami and thus fold and unfold in ingenious ways.

But its latest iPad accessory, the Dynamic Folio, pushes this design ethos to new limits.

Not your average folio

Moft’s Dynamic Folio is a folio case for your iPad that, in essence, is similar to Apple’s own Smart Folio Case. It magnetically clips to the back of your iPad while also covering its screen, therefore protecting it from dings and scratches while carried.

But while Apple’s Smart Folio Case can fold back into a stand for your iPad that supports in a few different angles, for things like reading, viewing or typing, Moft’s Dynamic Folio can transform into a variety of configurations giving you a lot options on how you want your iPad positioned.

Floating modes

The Moft Dynamic Folio can position your iPad into two different “floating” modes — see above.

One floating mode elevates your iPad two inches off the desk’s surface and positions the screen at a 30-degree angle, which is more conducive to drawing.

The other floating mode lifts the iPad slightly higher and positions the screen at a more vertical angle, which is more suitable for watching videos or taking calls.

More configurations

The Dynamic Folio has other more conventional and non-conventional configurations in its locker. It can work as a traditional stand for your iPad, whereas it doesn’t float the screen off the desk, and it can do this in landscape or portrait orientations.

As seen in the above photo, it can also support your iPhone at the same time, that way you can see both screens simultaneously.

Additionally, the Dynamic Folio can be folded around your knee or arm while you hold the iPad (see photo below), thus giving you support when a desk or table surface isn’t nearby.

Works with iPads of all kind

The Moft Dynamic Folio will be available in three different sizes to accommodate any iPad, in any size, that you have.

Moft will offer a model that fits 11-inch and 13-inch iPads, iPad Airs and iPad Pros. A smaller size will fit the iPad mini.

For those with an Apple Pencil, Moft makes an optional Apple Pencil holder that magnetically attaches to the Dynamic Folio. It will be sold separately.

Price and availability

Moft is currently running a Kickstarter for the Dynamic Folio — and it’s already greatly surpassed its $10,000 funding goal.

As for pricing, the Dynamic Folio currently costs $34 (iPad mini), $45 (11-inch models) and $55 (13-inch models) for early backers. Once it officially launches, you can expect each price to rise by roughly $15, making the Dynamic Folio still considerably more affordable than Apple’s Smart Folio, which costs between $59 and $99.

According to Moft, the first Dynamic Folios will start shipping this May.
