Have you ever wanted to take photos that look like they’ve been taken with a Leica M rangefinder without actually having one? Well, now you can. The company’s new camera app, Leica Lux, brings the 35mm film aesthetic right to your iPhone. You can download it now — and it’s (mostly) free.

Leica Lux App

The Leica Lux app has two standout features.

First are its lens simulations; they allow you to take photos with similar characteristics — specifically, the bokeh — as if captured on classic Leica lenses.

Second, there are “Leica Looks,” which are various color profiles (basically filters) that you can add to your photos to make them look, again, like they’ve been shot on 35mm film.

Pricing

Naturally, the app has a free and a premium tier. If you don’t actually want to pay anything, you get access to one of these lens simulations — specifically, the Leica Summilux-M 28 mm f/1.4 ASPH — and five Leica Looks. This free version also allows you to play around with automatic and aperture priority modes.

If you opt for the premium tier — which costs $7 per month — you can access 11 Leica Looks and five different lens simulations. There’s also a fully manual mode, too, for seasoned photographers who want more control over exposure or shutter speeds.

You can download the Leica Lux app on your iPhone right now.
