The original Game Boy is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic gaming consoles of all time. And now, over three decades after its initial released, the 1989 classic handheld is getting immortalized in Lego brick form.

Nostalgia gamers and Lego enthusiasts, rejoice!

True icon, brick form

The Lego Game Boy looks unbelievably accurate to the 1989-released classic. It’s at a near 1:1 scale and thus promises to feel quite similar in your hand, too.

The build set is made of 421 pieces and comes with memorable features such as the iconic D-pad, large circular A and B buttons, thin buttons for “Select” and “Start, as well as the contrast adjustment and volume dial.

According to Lego, the “building kit is a testament to a classic era in gaming and with authentic details and much-loved features is a nostalgic throwback to the classic system.”

But it’s not just the Game Boy handheld. The Lego build kit comes with brick-built cartridge of two classic games: The Legend of ZeldaLink’s Awakening and Super Mario Land. These cartridges can fit into the back slot of the console.

Additionally, the set comes with several different screen choices, including the classic Nintendo start screen or a scene from the Zelda or Mario game. This way, the console appears to be actually playing the game.

Sadly, despite looking the part, the Game Boy and games don’t actually work.

Price and availability

The Lego Game Boy build set costs just $60, making it by far the most affordable Nintendo retro console set; the 2020-released set of the NES was priced at $269.

It’s available for preorder right now — you can place your order via Lego’s website or Amazon. It is expected to ship on October 1st.
