Apple introduced the first iPhone with an always-on display in 2022 — it was the iPhone 14 Pro — and it has been a staple of every “Pro” iPhone since. In fact, it’s one of the defining features that separates today’s Pro and non-Pro iPhones.
The always-on display is neat because it allows you to quickly glance at your iPhone without touching it and see information, such as the time, notifications or other information if you have customized widgets.
However, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, I know numerous people who find the always-on display distracting — and they can get the same information just by tapping their iPhone, anyway.
If you’re of that opinion, the good news is that it’s easy to turn off.

How to turn off your iPhone Pro’s always-on display
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and select Display & Brightness.
- Select Always On Display.
- Toggle off Always On Display (the third option)
If you’re somebody who still wants to see the time at a glance on your always-on display, but doesn’t want to see anything else, such as notifications or even your wallpaper, you can toggle those options off from this screen, too.
