The Insta360 Go 3S is the company’s latest action camera — an updated version of the 2023-released Go 3. It looks and works almost identically to its predecessor, but Insta360 has upgraded the Go 3S in a couple of key ways … one of which is particularly useful for iPhone users.
The Insta360 Go 3S is a unique action camera with modular design
Like the Go 3 before it, Insta360’s Go 3S is a pretty unique action camera. It’s a modular camera system comprised of a little thumb-sized camera that nests itself in a larger rectangular body called the “Action Pod.” The little camera pops out, and you can attach it — via a magnetic clip or magnetic pendant — to a piece of clothing or pet collar. (There’s also a stand accessory if you want the camera to be in a fixed location.)
You can then see what the tiny camera sees through the Action Pod’s 2.2-inch touchscreen viewfinder and capture video clips. When you’re done shooting, the little camera pops back in the Action Pod to charge. (You can also leave the tiny camera nestled in the Action Pod and use the Insta360 Go 3S as a more traditional action camera.)
The Insta360 Go 3S can capture 4K video, a big upgrade
Where the Insta360’s newest action camera differs from its predecessor is, first, video quality. The Go 3S can capture up to 4K video, a steep upgrade over the Go 3’s 2.7K video capabilities. The company claims videos will have less distortion, too.
The other big difference is that the Go 3S supports Apple’s Find My network. So, if the tiny camera gets misplaced or falls off the attached piece of clothing, you can locate it on your iPhone’s Find My app. Just like an AirTag.
