If you talk on your iPhone while you drive or use it for navigation, it’s a good idea to get a MagSafe-compatible car mount. It magnetically holds your iPhone in place while you drive so that you can keep two hands on the wheel. It’s easy, simple and safe.

Before getting a MagSafe-compatible car mount, however, you need to make sure that your iPhone supports it. Every iPhone model that has been introduced since October 2020 — which includes the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 lines — supports MagSafe; this allows the iPhone to magnetically stick to compatible holders, both for cars and other places. (The outlier is the iPhone SE, which is the only current iPhone that Apple sells that doesn’t support MagSafe.)

Below, we’ve rounded up the best MagSafe-compatible car mounts that can magnetically hold your iPhone in place while you drive.

We’ve been writing about and reviewing Apple’s iPhones, iPads and Mac lines for about a decade, as well as all the peripherals that work with those devices. We also work with major brands and talk to experts within the tech and audio industries. The below selections of MagSafe car mounts are a combination of products that we’ve had hands-on experience with as well as products that are made by brands that we trust.

Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless Car Charger

Pros

  • Will wirelessly charge your iPhone
  • Adjustable positioning
  • Can be purchased in charging or non-charging models

Cons

  • More affordable model doesn't support wireless charging
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? Yes (if you purchase the higher-end model)

This is one of our favorite MagSafe car mounts thanks to its slim design, relatively affordable price and integrated USB-C port so it can wirelessly charge your iPhone. The only caveat is you’ll have to use your own USB-C charging cable as it doesn’t come with one. (Note: this mount comes in two models, one that’s a mount and one that’s a charger; the latter is $20 more expensive.)

Nomad Charge Mount

Pros

  • Will wirelessly charge your iPhone
  • Adjustable positioning
  • Compact design doesn't take up much space on your dash

Cons

  • One of the more expensive options
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? Yes

Released in late 2023, Nomad’s first-ever MagSafe car mount has a very similar aesthetic as the company’s high-end MagSafe chargers. It’ simple yet elegant, with a compact design that’s made of polycarbonate and glass. It also comes with a 18-watt USB-C car adapter so you can fast charge your iPhone right out of the box. It’s a little bit on the expensive side, but we haven’t come across and better-looking MagSafe car mount. Full stop.

(Note: the Nomad Mount is essentially a more affordable version of the Charge Mount that can’t charge your iPhone.)

Best High-End MagSafe Car Mount

Mophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe

Pros

  • Will wirelessly charge your iPhone
  • Very adjustable positioning

Cons

  • One of the more expensive options
  • Takes up more space on your dash than other options
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? Yes

This is Mophie’s top-of-the-line MagSafe car mount — and it’s sold exclusively from Apple. It’s unique because it has a highly adjustable arm that you can rotate and maneuver and find the ideal viewing angle. It’s also capable of charging your iPhone and comes with all the necessary components, such as a USB-C cable and a USB-C 20-watt car adapter, to work right out of the box. Other than its steep price, the only real downside is that it takes up a decent amount of space on your dash.

Mophie Magnetic Vent Mount with MagSafe

Pros

  • Reasonably affordable
  • Very adjustable positioning

Cons

  • Takes up more space on your dash than other options
  • Will not wirelessly charge your iPhone

  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

This is a more affordable alternative to Mophie’s high-end Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe (above). It has the same highly adjustable design, but lacks the ability to wirelessly charge your iPhone while you drive. It’s also exclusively available at Apple.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro

Pros

  • Will wirelessly charge your iPhone
  • Adjustable positioning
  • Supports fast charging at 15 watts

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? Yes

The Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro is one of the few MagSafe car mounts capable of charging your iPhone (12 or later) at its fastest 15-watt speed over MagSafe. This fast charging capability is going to cost you, however. At nearly $100, the Belkin Boost Up Charge Pro costs almost twice as much as other car mounts for iPhone.

Belkin Magsafe Car Vent Mount Pro

Pros

  • Relatively affordable
  • Adjustable positioning

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

This car mount is fully compatible with MagSafe — Apple even sells it. It attaches to a car vent and, thanks to its rotating ball joint, you can adjust the positioning of your iPhone. The downside is that it won’t wirelessly charge your iPhone.

Mophie Snap Vent Mount

Pros

  • Very affordable
  • Doesn't take up much room on dash

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

The Snap Vent mount is not a wireless charger. It simply attaches to your car vent and magnetically holds your iPhone (12 or later) in place. It comes with a magnetic adhesive (called a Snap Adapter) that you can attach to the back of an older iPhone (that doesn’t have MagSafe) so that it will magnetically stick to the mount.

Mous MagSafe Compatible Suction Mount

Pros

  • Clever design
  • Adjustable positioning

Cons

  • Won't charge your iPhone
  • Not specifically designed for your car
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

Mous’s “suction mount” isn’t specifically designed for the car, but you can certainly use it there — it can easily be suctioned to your car’s windshield or dashboard. Its design also makes it really easy to un-suction it so you can mount it somewhere else. It doesn’t charge your iPhone.

Peak Design Car Mount

Pros

  • Unique design
  • Can be purchased in charging or non-charging models

Cons

  • Expensive (if you purchase charging model)
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

Peak Design’s magnetic car mount has a premium, durable design made out of anodized aluminum, and it grips onto your car’s dashboard. It can be ordered in either “non-charging” or “charging” sets, the latter of which costs $80 and ships with a charging cable and car adapter.

OtterBox Car Vent Mount for MagSafe

Pros

  • Relatively small size
  • Adjustable positioning

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone on its own
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

This MagSafe mount attaches to your car’s vents and magnetically holds your iPhone in place. It works with all MagSafe-compatible cases. Other than being a touch pricey and not being able to wirelessly charge your iPhone, the only other downside to this car mount is that it’s a little more rugged — i.e. not quite as adjustable — as other options.

OtterBox Car Dash & Windshield Mount for MagSafe

Pros

  • Unique and flexible design
  • Relatively affordable

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone on its own
  • Will take up a good chunk of space on your dash
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

OtterBox’s mount attaches to either your car’s dashboard or windshield via a suction base and then has an adjustable arm that allows you to get your ideal viewing angle. It works with all MagSafe-compatible cases.

Spiegel Wireless Car Charger

Pros

  • Takes up minimal space on your dash
  • Available in a couple different color finishes

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone on its own
  • Only attaches to dashboard
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

The simple car mount rests on your car’s dashboard and has a rotating ball joint to adjust the direction your iPhone faces. The big advantage is that it’s available in four different colors: space grey, black, red or gold.

Moment Car Vent Mount with MagSafe

Pros

  • Relatively affordable
  • Small and simple design

Cons

  • Will not charge your iPhone on its own
  • Will it wirelessly charge your iPhone? No

Moment’s magnetic car mount connects to your car’s air vents, and it works with or without Moment’s special iPhone cases (in case you’re not using Moment’s ecosystem of accessories). It does not charge your iPhone, so you’ll want to have a Lightning cable in your car.

Don’t Have an iPhone With MagSafe? Get an Adapter

If you have an older iPhone that doesn’t support MagSafe (or even an Android smartphone), you attach Mophie’s Snap Adapter to its back. This allows your phone to magnetically work with MagSafe accessories.

Only the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 lines support MagSafe. If you have an older iPhone — or an iPhone SE — you can’t take advantage of MagSafe … but all is not lost.

You can buy adapters like Mophie’s Snap Adapter (pictured) or cases that allow your iPhone (or even Android smartphone) to be compatible with MagSafe accessories. They won’t unlock the wireless charging abilities of MagSafe, but they will allow your smartphone to magnetically attach to something like a MagSafe car mount.

What to Look for

tech roundupTucker Bowe

There are a lot of MagSafe car mounts available in 2023. And they can vary quite a bit. Before buying one, here’s what to look for.

Charging

Not every MagSafe car mount will charge your iPhone. In fact, most won’t. If you want a mount that will also charge your iPhone, you’re likely going to have to pay a little extra.

Type of mount

Most MagSafe car mounts will give you options as to how it gets placed in your car. Most will have attachments for your car’s air vents or CD player. Some will have suction cups to attach to your car’s windshield or dashboard.

Size

MagSafe car mounts come in all different shapes and sizes. Generally, most people prefer a smaller option as it takes up less space on their dashboard or windshield. A larger MagSafe car mount has more chance of getting in the way or your car’s navigation system.

Price

Depending on the three factors above — size, type and charging ability — that’s going to play a big role in the end price of the MagSafe car mount. If it’s able to charge your iPhone (rather than just hold), that’s going to cause the most significant price increase as it’s likely going to come with extra cables and adapters.

Your iPhone Case Matters. Here’s Why

magsafe car mount refresh
Pictured: The Mophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe holding an iPhone 13 mini.
Tucker Bowe

All MagSafe car mounts rely on the magnetic connection between it and your iPhone. The strength of this connection is the strongest when your iPhone is placed directly on the MagSafe car mount — no case. There are many MagSafe-compatible cases, however, that have their own integrated magnets and that allows them to snap securely onto a MagSafe car mount.

The problem is that there are a lot of iPhone cases that don’t support MagSafe, meaning they still rely on your iPhone’s magnets for a strong connection. This is fine if the case is thin, but if it’s a thick case, it’s going to weaken the magnetic connection and could prevent your iPhone from staying on your MagSafe car mount.

Bottom line: If you have a case on your iPhone, make sure it fully supports MagSafe.
