Founded in 1932, New York guitar maker D’Angelico made a name for itself producing some of the best archtop guitars in the world. John D’Angelico opened up a guitar shop in New York City’s Little Italy neighborhood where he built and sold handmade jazz guitars with designs informed by his experience as an apprentice to a violin builder. In 1952, he hired James D’Aquisto –another revered name in the jazz guitar community — as an apprentice and worked with him for 12 years, until D’Anglico’s sudden death in 1964. Since then, the company has gone through many changes, but its instruments still reflect the designs of the founder.

In 2015, the brand expanded its product offerings to include acoustic guitars. These instruments pay homage to the brand’s roots: they have the brand’s iconic headstock, a Skyscraper truss rod cover, Stairstep tuning machines and an Art Deco-style bridge.

Today at Guitar Center, you can save 44 percent on a great affordable acoustic guitar from D’Angelico. The Premier Madison jumbo acoustic guitar has a solid Sitka spruce top, a laminated mahogany body, a slim C-shape mahogany neck and a bone saddle and nut. This guitar is designed for playability and features a single cutaway and side-mounted preamp with a 3-band EQ.

With the discount, this guitar is now just $280 — a ridiculously good price for a guitar with these features. If you’re a beginner looking for a great acoustic or a regular player looking for a performance-ready jumbo, this is worth checking out. Act fast though, because this is a one-day sale.
