Apple Stealthily Starts Selling an iPhone Accessory Unlike Anything Else

Apple quietly added a uniquely-designed wireless charger to its online store. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

In recent years, Apple has sold numerous wireless chargers made by third-party accessory makers. Belkin and Anker have probably been the most prolific, but there have been others — the most recent of which is the Dutch electronics company Zens.

This week, Apple quietly added the Zens Quattro Wireless Charger Pro 4 to its online store. The multi-device wireless charger has a unique double-decker design, which is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Double decker

The Zens Quattro Wireless Charger Pro 4 is a wireless charger with two identical levels, each with two wireless charging pads that support MagsSafe and Qi2. This means that it can wirelessly charger four devices simultaneously.

In total, the charger can dish out 60-watts of power, maxing out at 15-watts per wireless charging pad. This means that it doesn’t which wireless charging pad you place your iPhone on, it’s going to fast-charge at the same speeds.

According to Apple, it can charge an iPhone to 35 percent in just 30 minutes (although it’s not specified which iPhone model that is applies to).

Two big caveats

The Zens Quattro Wireless Charger Pro 4 is obviously designed for households that need to wireless charge numerous iPhones (or AirPods) at the same time. In fact, on its product page, Apple calls it “your family’s ultimate charging solution.”

However, there are two big caveats.

First, each wireless charging pad only supports the first-generation of MagSafe. This means that instead of 25-watt wireless charging, which the second-generation MagSafe can deliver, your iPhone maxes out at 15-watts. Basically, it’s going to wireless charging your iPhone fast, but not at its absolute fastest.

Most notably, the Zens Quattro Wireless Charger Pro 4 cannot charge an Apple Watch, which doesn’t support MagSafe and requires Apple’s proprietary charging puck.

The Zens Quattro Wireless Charger Pro 4 costs $150 and is available now from Apple’s online store. It comes with a 65-watt wall adapter, so it’ll work right out of the box.
