We’ve all been there. You go to plug your charger into the wall only to find that the outlet is too loose and the prongs don’t fit. You then have the choice of physically holding the charger upright and in place or going off to find a new wall outlet. It’s not ideal.

Well, Anker’s newest wall adapter aims to solves this exact problem.

Small yet very powerful

The Anker Prime Charger is a 3-in-1 wall adapter capable of delivering 100 watts of power. When all three ports — two USB-C and one USB-A — are being used, it intelligently distributes the 89 watts between them. (So yes, there’s a power drop-off when all three ports are being used.)

When used independently, either of the two USB-C ports can deliver the full 100 watts of power. The USB-A port maxes out at 22.5 watts.

It’s a GaN wall adapter — meaning it’s made of Gallium Nitride instead of silicon, the traditional material used in wall adapters — and thus is very energy- and space-efficient. This allows this relatively small yet powerful charger. It can easily charge a laptop.

New prongs, who this?

But multi-device GaN chargers have been around for a hot second. What makes Anker’s new Prime Charger different is that it’s optimized to better stay in outlets that have loose sockets.

Specifically, the Prime Charger has thicker prongs with a textured “frosted” finish to better grip the socket. Additionally, the Prime Charger has a more optimized center of gravity to prevent it from slipping out as easily.

The enlarged prongs of the Prime Charger are foldable, too, a helpful feature for travel.

This isn’t the only ingenious charging feature that Anker is working on. As spotted by The Verge, Anker is releasing a 65-watt wall adapter that’s slim enough to fit between two bulkier wall adapters on a power strip or surge protector. Pretty neat.

(That said, it’s unknown if Anker’s super slim adapter will be available in the US — right now it’s only confirmed to be released in Japan.)

Price and availability

The Anker Prime Charger was just launched as part of the company’s 2024 Prime lineup alongside a couple of desktop chargers. It costs $85 and is available now from the company’s website.
