Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook is here, but it’s not just an addition to Apple’s laptop line; it is also taking the place of the older 15-inch model. Thanks to smaller bezels, the 16-incher isn’t considerably larger than its predecessor, but it’s also not exactly the same size. The new 16-inch model is just slightly larger, and here is how they stack up, down to the fraction of the inch.

MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2018:

  • 0.61 inches (1.55 cm) high
  • 13.75 inches (34.93 cm) wide
  • 9.48 inches (24.07 cm) deep
  • 4.02 pounds (1.83 kg) in weight (varying slightly by configuration.)

MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019:

  • 0.64 inches (1.62 cm) high
  • 14.09 inches (35.79 cm) wide
  • 9.68 inches (24.59 cm) deep
  • 4.3 pounds (2.0kg) in weight (varying slightly by configuration.)

In short, the 16-inch is:

  • 0.3 inches (0.76 cm) higher
  • 0.34 inches (0.86 cm) wider
  • 0.2 inches (0.51 cm) deeper
  • 0.28 pounds (0.13 kg) heavier

For reference, the width of a Lightning connector is about 0.4 inches at its widest point, so the new MacBook is no bigger than a Lightning plug’s width in any direction. At 0.28 pounds (or roughly 4.5 ounces) heavier, the 16-inch MacBook weighs about as much as the 2018 15-inch model, plus a half a cup of water placed on top.
