AsusLast fall, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime became the pace car in the Android tablet rat race. Now just four months later, Asus has announced a new flagship that’s souped-up for 2012, ditches the old vowel-overkill “Eee” brand, and gives previous early adopters the middle finger in the process.
The Infinity’s body style is essentially identical to the original TP, but an upgraded 10.1-inch Super IPS+ display with a 1920×1200 full HD resolution, faster 1.6GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core chip, improved 2MP front-facing camera (to go along with its already best in class 8MP rear) and a 14% increase in battery capacity are notable improvements for the 2012 marketplace. 3G/4G LTE versions are also available, but like the HTC One X, it features a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. Both versions will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich and should watch the Android tablet throne for at least a few hours. Prices are estimated to range between $600 and $800, which we assume will still be in range with the other tablet-that-shall-not-be-named, launching next week.
