That hasn’t stopped pocket-tool legend Victorinox from evolving the classic Swiss Army Knife to house the latest SSDs and transfer protocols. Their new solid state drive line features a special single connector that’s compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, as well as eSATA 2.0 and eSATA 3.0 — enabling read speeds of 22MB/s read and write speeds of up to 15MB/s. It’s also available in sizes of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and even one terabyte, with the latter size claiming the title as the world’s smallest high-capcity SSD drive on the market to-date. Of course, with all of that storage space (which can be separated from the knife body for transfers), remembering exactly what you have stashed away can be an exercise in futility. For that reason, the Victorinox SSD features another first, in the form of a 96×49 Bi-stable monochrome display for labeling contents and quickly viewing how much room you have left.
Naturally the real appeal of all of that high-tech wizardry is that it’s combined with the company’s classic tools. Specifically, the device ships with both a standard knife body as well as a flight-friendly size, which can be easily interchanged in the event a TSA groping looms in your future. Other classics include scissors and the nail file/screw driver combo. The entire line will be available in traditional colors such as black, Victorinox red, forest green and navy blue sometime in April. Be prepared for sticker shock, however, since prices start at $470 for smaller models and escalate to $3,000 for the terabyte big boy.
