The Sony RX0 II is the company’s newest action camera and the successor of the two-year-old RXO. Sony claims it’s “the world’s smallest and lightest premium ultra-compact camera.” The RX0 II having some pretty significant upgrades over its predecessor, and it kind of blurs the line between action camera and traditional compact shooter.
The RX0 II is waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and crushproof; It has an improved image sensor (1.0-inch stacked 15.3-megapixel CMOS sensor) and processor (Sony’s BIONZ X), allowing it to shoot higher-solution stills at 16 fps (very quick) and 4K videos at 30 fps. It has a new wide-angle lens (Zeiss Tessar T 24mm F4.0), which should be great for up close and personal shots (think: vloggers). And with an ISO range of 80-12800, the RX0 II should perform well in low light.
Maybe the most obvious difference is the RX0 II’s new viewfinder. It has a 180-degree tiltable LCD screen, so you can flip it around and see what you’re shooting; a common feature for point-and-shoot cameras, not-so-much for action cameras. There are a bunch of other features that vloggers will love, including in-body electronic stabilization, a microphone jack, and a companion app that allows you to control the camera remotely (in case you want to be in front camera, instead of behind it.)
The Sony RX0 II costs $700 and will be available this April.
